Important Update - Implementation of Mandatory EPF Contributions For Non-Malaysian Employees
At Bright Prospect, we are committed to keeping our clients and partners informed about regulatory changes that impact their business and workforce. In line with this, we wish to share a significant update from the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) regarding mandatory contributions for non-Malaysian employees.
Key Details of the New Ruling
Based on the official government announcement on 25 June 2025, the new law for mandatory EPF contributions for non-Malaysian workers will take effect starting with the October 2025 wages (for the November 2025 contributions).
Here’s a breakdown of the essential information:
Who It Applies To: All non-Malaysian citizen employees with valid work permits.
Exemption: Foreign domestic workers are exempt from this ruling.
Contribution Rate: A fixed rate of 2% from the employee’s monthly wages, matched by another 2% from the employer.
What Employers Need to Do Now
The EPF is currently streamlining the registration process. To ensure a smooth transition and compliance, we advise employers to take the following steps:
Check Registration Status: Employers can now log in to the EPF portal using the employee’s valid passport number to check their registration status and obtain their EPF membership number.
For Unregistered Employees: If an employee is not automatically registered, employers should contact the EPF office at 03-8922 6000 to confirm if an online appointment is needed. Following this, the employee will need to be present at an EPF counter to complete the registration.
